Carl Sutherland: Welcome to my website

Home

My name is Carl Sutherland and I welcome you to my little corner of this World Wide Web. I created this website with two purposes in mind. Firstly, it was to serve as a clean, classy introduction of myself to the world. Secondly, it was an exercise in compatible web design. Hopefully I have achieved both of these ends!

Introduction:

Presently I am a sophomore at The Pennsylvania State University enrolled in Computer Science and Mathematics. One day I would like to further my education with graduate studies. My story does not start here, though. I was born and raised in the hills of Economy Pennsylvania by two very unique people, my parents. A liberal upbringing and a lack of cable television allowed me to develop a strong appreciation and curiosity for the world around me. I spent almost all of my time with my imagination and a few good friends.

Upon enrollment in elementary education I met my first computer, and I was terrified. My fear prompted my mother to purchase our first family computer, a Gateway 386. Once this beast was in my home, I soon tamed my fears and spent quite a lot of time with it. From that point onward my interest in computers has only grown.

Growing up, I participated in several activities. I was thrown into Boy Scouts as a cub scout the first year they would let me join. This is where I met several of my closest friends, building friendships that have followed me to this day. One of these friendships led to my joining a local soccer club of which I was a member for several years. An unfortunate injury in Junior High prevented me from continuing.

My family was a family of vacations. My home itself was almost a vacation for a kid. The house was a timber frame built by my parents on fifty acres of once-farmland. We had a little vineyard, a plant nursery, and many trails through the woods. Never-the-less my parents deemed it necessary to see some of this great nation. We took trips ever year or two, usually camping along the way, visiting Yellowstone, the Everglades, the Tetons, the Grand Canyon, Giant Sequoia National Park, Crater Lake and so much more.

Well that is all I have time for, for now.
